Emblematic figure of the famous Provence region of France, lavender is used for many different uses. Dried it scents the atmosphere, distilled it finds its way into the preparation of perfumes and various cosmetics. Some of the essential oils that are extracted from it are used in medicine. The local bee-keepers who install their hives at the edges of these fields collect a very scented honey. On the Valensole plateau, vast fields of lavenders can be found scattered on its 800km² surface. It is not rare to find them blooming beside sunflower fields, resulting in splendid contrasts from colours.
